KIMBERLY K. WILLIAMS
Following the Wagons: A Poetic Trail
Kimberly K. Williams’ historically based multi-voiced long poem Following the Wagons: A Poetic Trail brings to life the experiences of women who crossed the western United States during 1840-1860. Combining the empathic imagination of poetry with archival research, the collection shows us their extreme vulnerability as it critically observes a quintessential colonial journeying.
By tuning in to voices of women on the 19th Century American wagon trail, Kimberly K. Williams creates a choral work brimming with life. Harshness, monotony and grief are peppered with flashes of beauty and joy. This superb poetry awakens something universal about how we make sense of the lives we are given. Emilie Collyer
