Good old Zoom Sept 21 – fabulous Sarah Rice and open mic poets

At our September evening hosted by Rose Lucas we enjoyed 2 hours of reading and listening that was “such a wonderful night of poetry and community”.

With her exciting work that criss-crosses between poetry and the visual in a variety of forms, it was fantastic to have Canberra poet Sarah Rice as our featured poet on the night.

Sarah is drawn to the intersections between poetry, philosophy, music and art. She gave us a feast for eye and ear alike, with readings from her ekphrastic poetry, accompanying images, and selections from her cross-media collaborations. Watch Sarah’s performance in the first video here.

Sarah’s work has been widely published and anthologised. She told us about and read from her most recent art-poetry chapbooks Care-Stop, and Text/ure both published by Recent Work Press.

The open mic was also wonderful. “Brilliant Julian. Thank you so much. You held the room. We held our breath. Wow!”. Watch the recording of the open mics in the second video here.

The poets sharing their work were:

  • Roxanne Bodsworth
  • Belinda Calderone
  • Gayelene Carbis
  • Lyn Chatham
  • Jennifer Compton
  •  Angela Costi
  • Phillip Hall
  • Dominique Hecq
  • Simone King
  • Rose Lucas
  • Julian Matthews
  • Tony Mills
  • Rose van Son

There are two videos from the event – Sarah Rice in one, and the open mic poets in the other.
