What Isaac saw

This painting was inspired by Rose Lucas’ poem What Isaac Newton saw.

During the black plague Newton saw an apple fall – and as can happen in strange and unusual circumstances, where much else has been stripped away, he watched this with newfound curiosity and enquiry.

“an ordinary miracle that needs a different eye to see it,
a new tilt of the head, or sudden mood of
equanimity that allows leaves to rustle……”

Perhaps the Covid pandemic might allow us to make extraordinary discoveries, to see things in new ways.
